The first Santa Gertrudis bull was introduced to the property Spring Vale in 1965 and joined to Poll Hereford cows. It was soon evident that many benefits of the introduction of Santa Gertrudis genetics, with only Santa bulls purchased thereafter. Over the years a number of good bulls were purchased, and a good commercial herd was established. This went on to the base of the Warenda Stud.

In 1984 Sylvia Kirkby registered the Warenda Santa Gertrudis Stud (1293). Small select numbers of cows were purchased gradually over a period of several years and also a grading up program was in place using the very best of the Spring Vale cows.

The first stud bull Yarrawonga Vajda (by the well-respected Waco Rupert and from an Elgin Downs A25 cow) was purchased at the 1986 Yarrawonga sale. Vajda’s calves were of a high standard and his daughters were valued breeders and added great strength to the cow herd.

Many good sires have been introduced over the years and have made a beneficial contribution to the Warenda Stud. Some of note were Murrumbo Beaumon (P), King Ranch N67, Golden Elm Fairfax (P) and Aberdeen Darwin (P) all of which bred very good females which in turn bred on consistently. Home bred bulls which have performed well are Warenda Mexico (P), Warenda Mahogany (P) and Warenda Peter Pan (P).

AI programs have been conducted over the years using bulls such Waco Knight (P), Waco Landlord (P), Waco Inventor (P) and Wave Hill Major (P).

Warenda Stud commenced showing cattle in 1990 and the stud has met with much success in regional shows, breed feature shows and royal shows. Broad ribbons have been won at Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Royals with both Heifers and Cows, Junior and Senior Champion Bulls.
