SuJo

I moved to Coonabarabran 15 years ago with a part time husband who runs his own business in Sydney, to a very scrubby 4000 acres that grew nothing but sifton bush and spiny burr.  Over the first few years nearly 2000 acres was bulldozed and it has been my job to carry out the tasks of stick picking, ploughing, sowing, fertilizing etc., to make this property what it is today.

During this time I bought 19 Santa Gertrudis purebred heifers from Mrs Robin Hooper of 'Boolarong' and there our first interest in the cattle began.  Later other breeds were purchased but the Santa's showed outstanding constitutions and more suited to this country.

It was suggested that I give a purebred steer to the local school, which I did.  I prepared him myself and turned him over to the school five weeks before the 1997 Dubbo National Steer Show.  Out of 82 head he won the Grand Champion steer on the hook and with all the excitement, the following day, I gave birth to a baby boy, Jonathan.  Hence 1 grand champion steer and 1 baby boy = SuJo Santa Gertrudis Stud.

The past few years, I have acquired females from other studs such as Calga West, Murrumbo, Florando, Big Sur, Hardigreen Park, Pine Villa, Noralla, Kelly Wallah and Warenda.  They have all adapted well to this lighter country where our winters are hard and they do it tough.

The sale bulls when weaned are put onto a 'lick' of grower pellets to tide them over the winter, after which they have to fend for themselves until they make the journey to Glenn Oaks.

2006 saw SuJo top the inaugural Santa Central Sale at $32 000 with SuJo First Class (AI) (P) by Waco Landlord (P) purchased by the Benelkay Stud.  2nd sale topper SuJo Flash by Wave Hill Matlock (P) sold to Yarrabee Grazing Co. for $29 000.

2007 despite tough conditions, SuJo had a top of $11,000 for SuJo Geronimo sold to repeat buyer Yarabee Grazing Co. and $10,000 for SuJo Grandiose (PS) sold to Owen Perrett & Co, Wandoan.

2008 another successful year with SuJo Hunter (P) by Yarrawonga Latham selling for $19,000 to Muirhead Pastoral Co.  and SuJo Hagen also by Yarrawonga Latham selling for $20,000 to Hardigreen Park.  11 'S' bulls averaged $7,864.

2009 again at Santa Central, Sujo Indigo (P) by Waco Rally (P) sold to Moongana stud for $16,000 and SuJo Inferno by Diamond H Frodo (PS) sold to Yarrawonga-Waco stud for $15,000 making an average of $6,682 for 11 bulls.

I look at continually improving the SuJo herd with good temperament, structural correctness and easy doing ability to meet the requirements of stud and commerical breeders.

It is with pride and confidence that I offer these bulls in the 5th Santa Central Sale.
