2009 Classification at Tookey Creek
Tookey Creek Starbright at 22 yrs of age Angus Maccue's first Beef Week. Summer Crops at Tookey Creek | The Maccue Family's Tookey Creek Santa Gertrudis Stud is located 14 km west of north west New South Wales. The stud was founded in 1987 with a base of Santa cows purchased from Arthur Kirkby, and together with a herd of Hereford/Santa cows, a grading up program commenced. Stud cows from Pampoola, JJJ dispersal sale and Kanbowra (Reg Toll) formed our base 'S' herd. A close association with Kensit Kelly began with an ET program which produced our first "home" bred stud cow; Tookey Creek Starbright who was our first show animal. Star is a remarkable cow still gracing us with her presence at the grand age of 22 years! The Tookey Creek herd comprises of approximately 100 'S' and 10 commerical females. In the last few years, together with our Tookey Creek bred cows, we have purchased quality females from Brigalow, GBL, Kelly Wallah Dispersal Sale and recently Warenda Reduction Sale. These females have been a welcomed addition to our already quality base of cows. We are proud of our succeses both in the show and sale ring. Highlights of sales include:
In 2008 we sold our total draft of 6 bulls for an average of $11,000. Tookey Creek also topped the females selling Tookey Creek 8515 for $4000. Over the past 4 years 46 of our sale bulls have averaged $5,480. We have aimed over the years to consistently breed structurally correct feminine cows with neat neavel and quality fertile bulls which we have confidence will classify and produce quality calves. We have introduced some exciting new genetics into the Tookey Creek herd, retaining Tookey Creek Napolieon, a powerful son of Tyndale Noddy, whose first calves were weaned this year. In 2009 we purchaed 2 bulls - Dangarfield Qualco and Warenda Clifton. We are expecting calves to be ready for sale at the 2012 Santa Central sale. We have been showing and preparing sale bulls with Scott and Wendy for many years now and we would like to thank them for their efforts. We would welcome any queries as to this years draft of Tookey Creek bulls. |
