Kokopelli Stud

Operated by Daryl Wise & Kirstie Ferguson. Our appreciation for the Santa Gertrudis breed started in the early 1990’s as we observed my father manage & develop over a 16 year period a very profitable commercial herd for JH Fairfax & Son “Kioma” Toobeah. This herd was developed using Ibrox Park, Santa Park, Yarrawonga, Gyranda and Eidsvold Station bloodlines. We both developed a strong admiration for the even temperament, ease of calving and the high yielding progeny that comes with the breed. So came our dream to one day have our own stud. Kokopelli Stud is in our 3rd year of operation. In 2002 we moved to “Glenora” at Nobby and bought 23 commercial heifers from Noel Schmidt “Pampoola”, Cunnamulla. We are very grateful to good friends Brent & Lynne Harris who leant us 2 bulls, Ibrox Park Wellington and Ibrox Park Xanadu to join with these heifers over the next 2 years. The progeny from these bulls have provided us with some very good cows for our commercial herd. In June 2006 we managed to buy 52 cows (PTIC) from Ross & Merrilyn Finemore, Sapphire Santa Gertrudis Stud, dispersal sale. We are privileged to have been able to acquire this herd as a unit and they have given us a good foundation to our stud. These cows include bloodlines from Waco Investment, Wave Hill Major, Gyranda Widgee and Yarrawonga Xmas. In September 2006 we purchased from the Santa Central Sale Gralyn Z36 . Our main aim in purchasing him was to try & build our stud herd with some good framed feminine cows to replace some of the older Sapphire cows. We have been very pleased with his progeny, with his first classified calves being presented by Scott and Wendy in the 2009 Santa Central Sale.
